I am a senior leader, and examiner who has years of experience teaching different exam specifications. My classes regularly achieve high levels of progress, in 2022 it was +1.5. Please browse a selection of history, sociology and generic lessons and resources. Most of them have writing frames for students who need support with writing. Please review if you download anything as I will try to edit and improve using any feedback

T&L: Stretch and Challenge Ideas

(12)
This is from a T&L Breakfast that I did on some approaches to stretch and challenge. It aims to give some ideas that work on challenging all students not just the most able. If you try any of the ideas would be good to get some feedback on them. What works in some classes doesn’t necessarily work in others.

Print out, cut up, fold in half, laminate and add to key ring. I leave these on the table in resources trays with other things such as glues, scissors, pens etc. I use these for multiple choice questions to get quick AFL for factual recall. I pose the question for 1 min then the answers come up and students have to hold up the correct answer card. These can also be used for voting in class and in debates

These cards are simple, print and laminate. All you need to do is buy scratch card stickers, easy to find on the internet, and place them on the cards over the reward words. Or you can mix silver paint and fairy liquid and paint on them and this can be scratched off. These work well as prizes in lessons as students are excited to see what they have won. Used them for rewards for good lesson work and homework

Roll it recap

A resource that works well for a recap topic. Fill the grid with questions or topics. Students then roll dice and answer the question or describe/give facts/ explain the topic. Works well as a revision task at the end of a topic.

I use this for either a revision/consolidation/homework task. I change the headings and subheadings depending on the topic we are studing. Students then have to recap what they have learn trying to be concise. They also include an image which either best sums up the topic or they draw one. Then in the grey boxes they sum up the topic in key details. This works for lots of subjects and I have done it for history, sociology and RE. It also works well for book reviews.
